Hospitality industry proposes extension after Oktoberfest shutdown - Oktoberfest Shutdown Midway Due to Bomb Threat, Economic Impact Still Significant

Oktoberfest, the world's largest beer festival, was abruptly shut down midway due to a bomb threat. Despite the disruption, its economic impact remains significant, and there's talk of extending the event.

Oktoberfest is more than just a beer festival; it's a symbol of Bavarian culture, joy, and unity. Even with the shutdown, it's estimated to have contributed €1.48 billion to the local economy. On average, each guest spends around €90 at the festival.

By the halfway point, 3.5 million people had visited Oktoberfest, slightly fewer than the same period last year. Despite security measures, Thomas Geppert, DEHOGA's state manager, isn't worried about guests staying away. In fact, DEHOGA has proposed extending the 'main event' after Wednesday's shutdown.

Oktoberfest's economic impact is still being determined, but it's clear it's a significant event for Munich and Bavaria. The possibility of extending the 'events near me' depends on city authorities' decisions, considering logistics, safety, and regulations. No fixed criteria for extension are outlined, but specific requests and evaluations may lead to an extension.
