Usually, leaders aim to appear as the fix-all, a person who knows all the answers. But here's the catch: this facade might not reflect the actual leader. It's essential to understand that proficient leadership is more about being genuine and less about being a solution for every problem that comes along.

When followers trust their leaders as authentic individuals, they tend to have more faith in the organization, work harder, and act with more integrity. However, stepping away from the traditional leader archetype isn't always a walk in the park. One major hurdle is that leaders tend to focus on showcasing their strengths while steering clear of revealing their weaknesses, even other leaders.

Research, though, suggests that sharing your vulnerabilities can enhance your authenticity. The higher up the corporate ladder you are, the more positive the impact. Opening up about your weaknesses earns you more respect and trust from your team members.

It's all about being upfront and owning your flaws, particularly those related to human frailties rather than deep personal transgressions. Think of common traits that play a role in your day-to-day work.

When a leader appears to have all the answers, it might come off as self-promotion and a need to seem perfect at everything. Instead, it's vital to share your weaknesses voluntarily rather than doing so out of necessity. People take leaders' intentions into account; they observe the reasons behind the leader's decisions and behavior.

Once followers perceive their leader as authentic, they put forth maximum effort to meet deadlines and help the team achieve its goals. As leaders, it's crucial to evolve our mindset from "never reveal your weakness" to "be more genuine." Trying to appear perfect only contributes to others seeing us as inauthentic and untrustworthy. On the contrary, being open and honest can lead followers to view us as honest and reliable leaders.
