Today, the National Affordable Housing Council meeting was held, chaired by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. The meeting focused on discussions related to the housing ecosystem in the country, with a particular emphasis on assisting individuals without a fixed income, such as gig workers and small traders, to own homes.

The initiative in question is SJKP, a government programme aimed at providing housing solutions for those who often struggle to secure financing through conventional channels. According to Nga, an individual who attended the meeting, this was one of the matters discussed.

The Ministry is actively working on expanding the housing financing initiative through rent-to-own financing through SJKP. This approach is expected to increase accessibility for the target groups, ensuring that more people can benefit from the programme.

Financial literacy is also being emphasized as crucial for the target groups. By improving financial management skills and knowledge, individuals can better navigate the housing market and make informed decisions about their financial future.

The B40 group, the main target group of the housing financing scheme, received the majority of the approvals. This is a significant step towards ensuring that those most in need have access to affordable housing options.

In addition, the government is providing housing loan guarantees for individuals who struggle to secure financing through conventional channels. This measure is designed to reduce the financial burden on individuals and make it easier for them to purchase a home.

As of June 30, 98.8% (or 493,874 affordable houses) of the housing units under the 13th Malaysia Plan have been completed, with the remaining 6,126 units expected to be finished by the end of the year. The goal is to increase the number of Rumah Mesra Rakyat units to 10,000 per year in collaboration with various agencies, considering the 13,502 applications still awaiting approval.

The Rumah Mesra Rakyat program is collaborating with the private sector, government bodies, and NGOs to increase the number of units. This partnership is crucial in ensuring that the programme can meet the growing demand for affordable housing in the country.

A new act is being drafted, but specific details were not provided in the article. Engagement sessions are being held for the drafting of new acts, including the Residential Tenancy Act, and amendments to existing acts like the Housing Development (Control and Licensing) Act 1966 (Act 118) and the Strata Management Act 2013 (Act 757).

The highest-ever recorded number of approvals for housing financing was announced, with 67% of the recipients buying homes priced below RM300,000. This is a significant achievement, demonstrating the success of the government's efforts to make housing more affordable for all Malaysians.

In conclusion, the National Affordable Housing Council meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, marked an important step forward in the government's efforts to provide housing solutions for those without a fixed income. The expansion of the SJKP programme, the focus on financial literacy, and the partnership with various sectors are all positive developments that will help more individuals achieve their dream of homeownership.
