Job Market Boom in Brazil with 1.69 Million New Hires 🚀

In a surprising turn of events, Brazil created 1.69 million fresh jobs last year, marking a 16.5% increase from 2023, as per the Ministry of Labor and Employment's latest report. This polar shift breaks a pattern of declining job creation in recent years, with the number of jobs created plummeting from 2.7 million in 2021 to a mere 1.4 million in 2023. 📉

Today's Headlines: Friday, May 1

According to the ministry's data, Brazil had 25.6 million hirings and 23.9 million separations in 2024.

Brazil's Labor Minister, Luiz Marinho, reported during a press conference that in the first two years of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's administration, approximately 3.15 million jobs have been created. However, the monthly employement statistics saw a particularly poor performance in December, with a reduction of 535,547 jobs, which is an increase from the same month the previous year (452,020). 😟

December is traditionally a sluggish month for job growth, according to Marinho, but high official interest rates could impact this year's results. These high rates "boost costs and may hinder investments," the minister warned.

Nevertheless, every economic sector reported positive balances in 2024. The winning sectors were services and commerce, the transformation industry, and civil construction. The average real salary in 2024 was 2,177.96 reals (approximately USD 370 or EUR 355), a modest 2.6% rise compared to the 5% inflation rate witnessed the previous year. 📈
