Brazil's Labor Minister, Luiz Marinho, reported during a press conference that in the first two years of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's administration, approximately 3.15 million jobs have been created. However, the monthly employement statistics saw a particularly poor performance in December, with a reduction of 535,547 jobs, which is an increase from the same month the previous year (452,020). 😟
December is traditionally a sluggish month for job growth, according to Marinho, but high official interest rates could impact this year's results. These high rates "boost costs and may hinder investments," the minister warned.
Nevertheless, every economic sector reported positive balances in 2024. The winning sectors were services and commerce, the transformation industry, and civil construction.
