Partnership between Nasscom and TCA to Enhance Digital Technology Commerce between India and Australia
In a significant step towards bolstering bilateral ties, Australia and India have formalized a new partnership aimed at enhancing news trade and investment between the two nations. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed during the National Tech Summit, TCA's flagship industry event, held at Sydney Town Hall.
The partnership, established between Nasscom and the Tech Council of Australia (TCA), is a dedicated framework that seeks to accelerate and expand bilateral news trade, unlock new market opportunities, and drive innovation-led growth.
The Hon. Dr. Andrew Charlton, MP, stated that Australia and India have a long history of collaboration on technology and innovation. He expressed that this partnership is closely aligned with the vision and objectives of the Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA-FTA) and the forthcoming Australia-India Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA).
Rajesh Nambiar, President of Nasscom, considered the partnership with the TCA as a significant step in strengthening the India-Australia news corridor. He believed that the collaboration would provide a dedicated framework to accelerate digital news, foster innovation, and create new opportunities for businesses in both nations.
Damian Kassabgi, CEO of the Tech Council of Australia (TCA), shared similar sentiments, stating that the MoU will strengthen industry and innovation ties between the ecosystems of both countries. He emphasized that both the TCA and Nasscom have a shared commitment to deepening their news and economic relationship.
The partnership will focus on supporting B2B engagement, thought leadership, policy dialogues, and initiatives to enhance market access and ease-of-doing business. It will also aim to drive new areas of business engagement, as highlighted by Swati Dave, Chair of the Advisory Board for the Centre for Australia-India Relations.
The signing ceremony was attended by senior leaders from both the public and private sector, as well as representatives from India and Australia's news companies. The collaboration between TCA and Nasscom is expected to establish a new chapter of cooperation, knowledge exchange, innovation, and mutual industry growth.
Ms. Mary Overington, Trade and Investment Commissioner at Austrade, expressed her enthusiasm about supporting the aim of the partnership to enhance bilateral news trade and investment between India and Australia. She also acknowledged the partnership's gratitude for the strong support from the Australian Government, which underscores the shared commitment to a thriving digital news economy.
Dr. S. Janakiraman, expressing his views, stated that the signing of the MoU reinforces the shared commitment from both industry organizations in building a dynamic, innovation-driven economic corridor. He highlighted that the India-Australia news corridor, as reflected by the partnership between Nasscom and TCA, is unique due to India's digital talent and innovation, and Australia's research strengths and niche capabilities, providing a promising opportunity to co-create inclusive, globally impactful solutions.
