Petco Teams Up with Nationwide for Pet Insurance Services; Shopify Aims for Financial Profitability

PETCO AND NATIONWIDE PARTNER TO EXPAND PET HEALTH OFFERINGS

Petco, a leading retailer in pet health and wellness, has announced a multi-year partnership with Nationwide to provide pet insurance. The insurance offerings, expected to become available next year, will focus on pet care from Petco’s pharmacies, veterinary hospitals or clinics, and other health programs like the retailer's Vital Care program.

Under this partnership, Petco will offer comprehensive insurance plans that cover veterinary expenses, including accidents, illnesses, and wellness care. The partnership aims to provide pet parents with convenient access to high-quality, trusted insurance options that help manage pet healthcare costs effectively.

"Receiving the medical support pets need throughout their lives is critical for both pets and their families," Jenny Wolski, Petco's senior vice president of omnichannel customer experience, said in a statement. "The customized, data-driven pet insurance solutions we're developing in partnership with Nationwide will be designed to expand families' access to Petco’s full range of pet care services, giving them longer and healthier lives together."

The partnership complements Petco’s existing veterinary services and health-related offerings, supporting pet parents in maintaining their pets’ well-being. By offering insurance through Nationwide, a well-established insurer, Petco strengthens its position as a comprehensive pet care provider.

This strategic move aligns with Petco’s mission to provide customers with a wide variety of services beyond just products. The retailer aims to become a category-defining health and wellness company focused on improving the lives of pets and their owners. The partnership builds on Petco's commitment to offer customers more than products, including veterinary services and pet advice through platforms like PetCoach.

The news comes just days after online pet retailer Chewy announced a partnership with Lemonade to provide pet insurance to consumers. As pet insurance becomes increasingly popular, pet retailers are expanding their offerings to meet the growing customer demand for accessible and reliable pet insurance.
