Rail Track Revamp in Nunkirchen: projects B 268, L 148, and L 152
Road repair works on the L 148 and related roads in Nunkirchen, Merzig-Wadern district, will commence on June 20, 2025. The extensive project, scheduled to be completed by September 20, 2025, will involve several phases, with the first phase beginning on June 20, 2025.
The project encompasses the roundabout at the town center (B 268 / L 148 / L 152), the street Im Flürchen (L 148) towards Wadern, and the Weiskircher Straße (L 152) towards Thailen. During Phase 1, several detours will be available, including via L 157 from Losheim to Weiskirchen, then continue towards Wadern; via L 369 through Niederlosheim and Wahlen to Michelbach and Schmelz; via L 333 from Schmelz to Wadern (and vice versa) via Limbach and Büschfeld.
Work in Phases 2-4, which will be done in three phases with full closure, will be on L 148 towards Wadern (Im Flürchen), starting after the L 152 junction for about 850 meters. Motorists are advised to consider potential delays in their route planning and allocate sufficient time for detours. Detours during these phases will run via Limbach (L 333 / L 145) and Michelbach (B 268) in both directions.
The project scope includes the renovation of the roundabout, resurfacing of L 148 and L 152, replacing drainage channels and road outlets, and repairing three bus bays along the L 148 in asphalt form. Changes in bus schedules and relocated stops will be announced by the respective operators.
Phase 2 is expected to take about three weeks, with completion of work on L 148 scheduled for late August 2025. The road repair works in Nunkirchen will mark the beginning of Phases 5-7, which will be focused on repairing the section between the roundabout and the town exit for about 800 meters on L 152 towards Thailen. Detours during these phases will run via Thailen (L 152 / L 151), Wadern, and Noswendel (L 148) in both directions.
Some work will be done during the summer holidays to minimize disruption to school bus services. The planned start of Phases 5-7 is early September 2025, with details on each phase to be announced separately before they begin. Traffic disruptions are expected during the project, and motorists are encouraged to stay updated on the latest developments.
