India's Economic Growth and Defense Sector Development Under Rajnath Singh's Leadership

India, under the leadership of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, is experiencing strong and sustained economic growth. The country's GDP rebounded sharply after the COVID-19 pandemic, with growth rates of 9.1% in FY 2021-22, followed by steady growth around 6.4%-6.8% in FY 2022-23 and FY 2023-24 respectively. The growth is expected to remain robust at 6.2%-6.5% in FY 2024-25, making India one of the fastest-growing major economies globally.

The Indian economy is also projected to surpass Japan in nominal GDP during 2025, becoming the world's fourth-largest economy. This indicates India's rising global economic stature. Additionally, the country's inflation rate has been relatively low, with a rate of 1.55% in July 2025, compared to historical averages.

In terms of the defense sector, Rajnath Singh's tenure as the Defense Minister has been marked by significant initiatives towards modernization and indigenization of defense capabilities. The defense sector is increasingly aligned with the broader economic strategy focusing on technology, infrastructure, and self-reliance, exemplified by government incentives such as the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) program attracting substantial foreign investment in related sectors.

Defense production and exports in India are increasing at an unprecedented pace and have touched record figures. Today, many things that were once made abroad, such as aircraft and weapons, are now being made and exported from India. Rajnath Singh's ministry has been at the forefront of the 'Make in India' push championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Notably, India's forces used indigenous equipment during Operation Sindoor, which played a pivotal role in the operation's success. Rajnath Singh also emphasized the importance of balancing development with environmental preservation, noting Madhya Pradesh's natural beauty.

In the industrial sector, Madhya Pradesh, led by a hardworking and dedicated Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, is expected to take the country "to new heights." The state has received investment commitments worth Rs 30 lakh crore and developed a land bank of 18,000 hectares. The rail coach factory in Madhya Pradesh is seen as a "symbol of modern development."

Rajnath Singh also laid the foundation stone of the Bharat Earth Movers Limited's 'Bramha' Rail Hub for Manufacturing, a Rs 1,800-crore Greenfield Rail Coach Factory set to be built in Raisen. The factory will not only manufacture rail coaches for high-speed trains but also produce other railway products, creating 5,000 direct jobs.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh used a phrase "sabke boss" as a pointed jibe towards US President Donald Trump, asserting that no global power can stop India from becoming a superpower. He also criticized US tariffs on India, claiming that global powers are jealous of India's rapid growth.

These indicators illustrate India's rapid economic growth and the strategic focus on sectors linked to defense and infrastructure under Rajnath Singh's leadership and the government’s broader policy framework. The US has imposed over 50% tariffs on India for buying Russian oil, but India's economic standing has improved significantly, moving from the 11th largest economy in 2014 to being among the top four today. The state of Madhya Pradesh, with its industrial development, social, cultural, and religious revival, can now be called "Modern Pradesh."

  1. The Indian economy's persistent growth under Rajnath Singh's leadership has attracted substantive foreign investment, particularly in defense production and exports, where India is now manufacturing and exporting aircraft and weapons at an unprecedented pace.
  2. Rajnath Singh's defense policy and legislation initiatives, such as the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) program, are not only modernizing and indigenizing the defense sector but also fostering economic self-reliance at a broader level.
  3. Beyond the economic sphere, Rajnath Singh's tenure as Defense Minister highlights the importance of balancing development with environmental concerns, as seen in his support for Madhya Pradesh's natural beauty preservation while fostering its industrial growth.
