Rapidly Constructed 435 MW Solar Power Facility in Rajasthan Reduces Carbon Dioxide Emissions by 705,000 Tonnes
The Gorbea Solar Power Project, located in Nokha, Bikaner District, Rajasthan, was officially inaugurated on July 19, 2025. This world-class facility, spanning 1,250 acres and powered by over 1,300 robotic cleaning units, is set to revolutionize India's renewable energy sector.
Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, praised the project as a "shining example of visionary leadership." The project, completed in under eight months, will provide clean electricity to 128,000 families and lower 705,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually.
Key factors contributing to the project's efficiency and speed include the use of advanced Topcon Bifacial Mono PERC solar panels, which capture sunlight from both sides, increasing energy efficiency and output. These panels, along with the robotic cleaning units, ensure maximum solar energy capture without manual downtime or efficiency loss due to dirt or dust buildup.
The project's financial stability is backed by a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). This agreement provided the necessary long-term operational certainty, facilitating faster investment and development.
The location in Rajasthan, a state with high solar irradiance and a robust renewable energy policy environment, also played a significant role. Rajasthan's renewable energy sector is supported by national schemes like PM-KUSUM and PM Surya Ghar, which have subsidized 49,000 rooftop solar installations with ₹325 crore.
Moreover, the state's Green Hydrogen Policy and Integrated Clean Energy Policy 2024 have drawn ₹6.57 lakh crore in investment proposals. Rajasthan's leadership in solar, wind, and green hydrogen, which accounts for 70% of its power capacity, serves as an example for sustainability and energy independence in India.
The project also promotes economic growth and skill development by hiring more than 700 local individuals during the construction phase. This initiative not only supports the local community but also fosters skill development in the renewable energy sector.
