Ford Unveils Electric Truck Demonstrator: The F-150 Lightning Switchgear
Ford Performance is set to reveal its latest creation, the F-150 Lightning Switchgear, at the King of the Hammers off-road racing event on January 25, 2023, in Johnson Valley, California. This electric truck demonstrator vehicle has been designed to push the boundaries of what's expected from electric cars for sale.
The F-150 Lightning Switchgear is based on America's best-selling electric truck and has undergone significant off-road upgrades for improved performance. To enhance durability, steel fabricated rock rails and a front skid plate have been added. The truck also boasts a significant increase in track width for off-road stability, as well as improved ground clearance and suspension travel.
The truck's suspension system includes custom independent double-wishbone suspension at the front and multilink independent suspension at the rear, both equipped with coil-over shocks, stabilizer bar, and custom control arms. For managing rough terrain, the F-150 Lightning Switchgear uses FOX 3-inch diameter internal bypass shock absorbers.
To improve approach and departure angles, the truck features unique front and rear bumpers. The F-150 Lightning Switchgear wears NITTO Ridge Grappler 37×12.5R18 tires and comes with a unique chase rack that includes two spare wheels/tires. For added control, limit straps have been added to help manage suspension and wheel travel.
The F-150 Lightning Switchgear's exterior features a custom carbon bodywork with a Ford Performance 2024 livery. It also sports carbon composite front fenders, bed sides, and a rear bumper cover.
The F-150 Lightning Switchgear is part of Ford Performance's Demonstrator program, a series of vehicles designed to showcase the brand's capabilities in various fields. The concept vehicle was developed and built by Ford, demonstrating their commitment to innovation and excellence.
This high-performance on- and off-road ford maverick demonstrator vehicle is set to make its public debut at the King of the Hammers event, marking a significant step forward for Ford Performance and the electric truck market.
