Regensburg Construction Boss Gets Suspended Sentence for €1M Wage Evasion
A construction company owner from Regensburg has been sentenced to a ten-month prison term, suspended, for aiding and abetting the evasion and misappropriation of wages in 43 cases. The defendant, who pleaded guilty, evaded social security contributions totaling over €1 million between 2017 and 2021.
Investigations by the Regensburg Customs Office's FKS department uncovered suspicious business registrations from EU nationals at the defendant's company address. The registrations were initiated by the entrepreneur, and the workers were paid hourly, indicating a regular employment relationship. Despite meeting the conditions for such a relationship, the defendant failed to register the workers with the social security office.
The head of the Regensburg Customs Office, René Matschke, emphasized the harm caused by such practices to social security funds and honest businesses. He committed to continued action against black work, stating that it undermines fair competition and exploits workers.
The defendant's actions resulted in a significant loss to social security funds. The court's sentence sends a clear message that such practices will not be tolerated. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of fair employment practices and the ongoing efforts of the customs office to combat black work.
