Federal Government Allocates RM350 Million for Peninsula Road Maintenance Works
BANGI, May 27 - The federal government has earmarked RM350 million for maintaining 563 federal roads across the Peninsula this year, announced Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan. Of this amount, RM275 million will be devoted to periodic pavement maintenance, while RM75 million will be allocated for non-pavement related projects.
Ahmad Maslan revealed that contractors from the G1 to G4 tiers would compete for these contracts through a ballot system, aimed at speeding up the road maintenance process and supporting smaller firms. The ballot draw for the Central and East zones was held today, while the South and North zones will see their ballots on separate scheduled dates. This is meant to ensure equal opportunities for all involved contractors.
Ahmad Maslan confirmed that the online results of the ballot are transparent, and the contractors chosen last year are not eligible for selection this year. He added that all participating contractors have been vetted by the authorities to ensure that the completed projects will meet the timeline and quality standards.
The contractors, deemed capable and reliable, will implement the maintenance projects, according to Ahmad Maslan. He asserts that any potential issues regarding contractors' abilities to complete the tasks are unlikely, although isolated cases may still exist.
