Rent Control Extended in Rostock and Greifswald Until 2028
Tenants in the university cities of Rostock and Greifswald are benefiting from an extended rent control measure, known as the 'Mietpreisbremse'. The state government of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has prolonged the policy until 2028, following its initial introduction by Minister Christian Pegel.
The rent control, which limits rent increases to no more than ten percent above the local comparative rent for new agreements, has been actively used by tenants. This extension aims to tackle the ongoing housing market situation in both cities.
Exceptions to the rule apply to new buildings and comprehensively modernized apartments. The policy will now remain in effect until September 30, 2028.
With the extended rent control, tenants in Rostock and Greifswald can continue to enjoy protection from excessive rent increases. The state government's decision ensures stability in the housing market for the next six years.
