Reopening of A81-block secondary bridge en route to Sindelfingen
The A81, a significant commuter route connecting Lake Constance and Stuttgart, is currently undergoing an expansion between Böblingen and Sindelfingen. This project aims to increase the number of lanes in both directions from two to three.
Due to the construction work, several on-ramps will be blocked this weekend, particularly at the "Echterdinger Ei". From Friday evening (8 p.m.) to Monday morning (6 a.m.), these closures will be in effect.
For those coming from Munich, exits at Airport/Messe or the Stuttgart interchange are advised. Those heading towards Leinfelden from Stuttgart should continue to the Leinfelden junction and exit onto the A8. Local detours have been set up and signposted due to the closures at the "Echterdinger Ei".
A temporary bridge in the direction of Sindelfingen has been passable since Saturday afternoon. However, a bridge between Böblingen-Hulb and Sindelfingen-Ost on the A81 is being demolished over the weekend.
Additionally, a planned "covering over a length of 850 meters" is part of the construction work - a kind of tunnel to muffle traffic noise.
This weekend, there will also be closures at the "Echterdinger Ei", which connects the A8 and B27 in the Esslingen district. The A81 at Böblingen/Sindelfingen remains fully closed during this period.
It's important to note that regular weekend closures occur when bridges over the motorway need to be demolished or installed. For the most accurate and up-to-date information, it is recommended to check the official website of the regional transport authority or news sources covering infrastructure projects in the area.
For those familiar with the area, it is advised to drive around the closure during this time. Those coming from the direction of Stuttgart will not be able to exit onto the A8 towards Munich or Karlsruhe. The closure is expected to continue until Monday morning (5 a.m.).
The upcoming construction work on the A81, particularly at the "Echterdinger Ei", is not exclusive to the transportation industry. It will also impact the automotive industry, as traffic diversions may affect commuters and deliveries. The project, which involves a tunnel to muffle traffic noise and a bridge demolition, is part of a broader financing initiative aimed at improving Germany's infrastructure, including the automotive and finance sectors.
