Residential development planned in Munich for accommodating over a thousand individuals: constructing apartments on land previously occupied by Knorr-Bremse
Munich's city council is set to make a decision this coming Wednesday that could mark the beginning of an exciting new development in the city. The proposed project, known as "Das Anders," is slated to transform the former Knorr-Bremse area in the Olympiapark, with construction expected to commence in 2027.
The vision for "Das Anders" is a living city that caters to people with diverse life concepts, various life phases, and different income levels. The development will provide rental apartments for up to 1,200 people, with approximately 600 apartments planned by the OPES Immobilien Group.
A significant portion of the apartments will cater to a variety of housing needs. About 180 apartments will be allocated for subsidized housing, and 60 apartments for affordable housing. Furthermore, 40% of the apartments in the quarter will be designated as social housing or affordable.
The quarter will also feature a mix of living, working, local supply, and social infrastructure, all within walking distance. This includes offices, supermarkets, a care facility, assisted living, kindergartens, a park, and numerous community gardens for residents.
At the quarter's centre on Ilse-Esser-Straße, there will be kindergartens, student and apprentice apartments, and a care facility with assisted living. The high-rise and buildings with curved facades, which will include photovoltaic elements, are expected to be the architectural highlights of the northern Olympiapark.
Noteworthy are the further approximately 120 units, which are intended for specific groups such as students, trainees, and seniors. Businesses will continue to be represented in the northern part of the quarter.
The historic administration building of Knorr-Bremse from the early 20th century will be preserved in the new quarter. The approval decision for the project "Das Anders" is imminent, to be decided by the Planning and Building Commission on Wednesday.
If approved, the entire quarter is scheduled for completion by 2031. The project has been designed to create a vibrant, inclusive community that embraces diversity and promotes sustainable living.
