Hasseroeder Brewery Employees Stage 24-Hour Warning Strike Over Wage Dispute

Employees at Hasseroeder Brewery in Wernigerode, a town within the Harz district, have initiated a 24-hour warning strike to express their dissatisfaction with the ongoing wage negotiations. According to the Nahrung-Genuss-Gaststätten (NGG) union, employees in production, bottling, and logistics departments are participating in the strike, which spans across three full shifts—from Tuesday evening to Wednesday evening.

The union is advocating for a two-part wage increase for the approximately 200 workers in Wernigerode. The proposed 3.0 percent increase is to take effect from April 2025, with an additional 3.5 percent increment scheduled for April 2026. However, the employers' offer of a 5.5 percent increase over a period of 24 months has been rejected by the union as inadequate.

Speaking on behalf of the NGG, business manager Katja Derer stated, "The employers' proposal falls significantly short of providing a fair compensation for the past years and the current high cost of living."

In response, a Hasseroeder spokesperson confirmed that some employees are currently on strike. Nevertheless, consumers can still find Hasseroeder beers on supermarket shelves, in bars, and restaurants.

Scheduled negotiations between the parties are set for July 9, following the expiration of the collective bargaining agreement on March 31.

The Hasseroeder Brewery is owned by the international corporation Anheuser-Busch InBev, which also oversees brands such as Beck's, Corona, Spaten, and Franziskaner.

For the latest and most accurate information pertaining to this strike, it is recommended to refer to official statements from the NGG Union and Hasseroeder Brewery.
