Ripple Continues to Hold 36.6 Billion XRP in Escrow, Next Release Scheduled
In a departure from its traditional monthly routine, Ripple, the blockchain-based technology company, recently unlocked a billion XRP tokens from escrow on August 9, 2025. This release, distributed across three separate transactions, amounts to approximately $3.28 billion.
This move deviates from Ripple's previous pattern of unlocking tokens on the first day of each month, signifying a shift towards more flexible timing for liquidity management. Most of the unlocked XRP, ranging between 650 to 800 million tokens, is expected to be relocated back to escrow, while around 200 to 350 million XRP will be allocated for operational purposes such as on-demand liquidity (ODL), partnerships, acquisitions, and ecosystem growth.
As of early August 2025, Ripple still holds about 35.6 billion XRP tokens in escrow for strategic initiatives, ensuring liquidity stability amid ongoing legal and market developments.
This could mark the first time ever that no XRP was unlocked from Ripple's escrows at the start of the month, according to XRPscan. However, no XRP has been released yet from the 700,000,000 XRP that were locked over the weekend.
In the past week, three chunks of 500,000,000 XRP and 2x 100,000,000 XRP were moved to escrow. As a result, the price of XRP has fallen from $3.08 to $2.94 per coin. Despite this decline, which is more than 4% over the past 24 hours, XRP staged a 1.5% rise earlier today, only to experience a pullback.
