Rural Energy Transition: A Joint Focus for USA and Germany

The Aspen Institute Germany is set to host an online conference titled "Transatlantic Cooperation for the Future of Agriculture and Energy" on September 24, 2025, at 4 pm. This event is free of charge and open to the public, encouraging active participation and questions from attendees.

The conference is part of the "U.S.-German Forum Future Agriculture" project, bringing together German and US farmers, experts, and politicians to discuss the pros and cons of decentralized energy supply and economic opportunities for farmers.

The event will feature a diverse lineup of speakers, including Dr. Stormy-Annika Mildner, Lauren Karplus, Anna Aeikens, Karl Bär, William Hohenstein, Stefan Köhler, and Joschka Knuth, who is the State Secretary in the Ministry of Energy Transition, Climate Protection, Environment and Nature of the state of Schleswig-Holstein.

The conference will also include practical perspectives on politics, moderated by Eden Vardy, Founder and Managing Director of The Farm Collaborative. Participants in this session include Genevieve Byrne, Professor of Law and Interim Director of Energy Clinic, Vermont Law and Graduate School, Sylvia Lauer, Farmer, Maientalerhof, Arne Guttulsröd, Crop Manager, Agrargesellschaft Neunheilingen mbH, Angela Heinssen, Attorney and Managing Director An der Lühe, and Benjamin Riensche, Owner and Manager of Blue Diamond Farming Company.

A highlight of the event will be virtual farm tours, featuring Breanna Reed from Bee-ewe-tiful Farm. The conference aims to foster a comprehensive and detailed exchange on agriculture, research, and politics, with a focus on supporting and advancing renewable energies.
