The Russian political party, "New People," has been advocating for the sale of "nice" car numbers since July 2022. The party's leader, Alexei Nechayev, first proposed the idea, drawing inspiration from a similar initiative by the leader of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.

State Duma deputy Yan Lantratova, a member of the "New People" party, has been at the forefront of pushing for this proposal. In May 2024, she presented the idea to Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Grigorenko, suggesting that the sale of these coveted license plates could potentially boost the federal budget's income.

According to Lantratova, if "nice" numbers were sold at official auctions, the federal budget's income could potentially reach around 35 billion rubles in the first year alone. She provided an example of numbers with the letters SVO, which were sold after the start of the special operation in Ukraine, with prices ranging from 150,000 to 5 million rubles.

However, the details of the legal framework for the sale of these "nice" car numbers are not yet specified. The sale of car numbers with the code AUE is under evaluation for its legality. No decision has been made yet regarding the sale of "nice" car numbers in Russia.

The video of Putin's meeting with leaders of parliamentary factions, where he commented on the proposal, was published on the Kremlin's website. President Vladimir Putin expressed no objections to the sale of "nice" car numbers in Russia.

Deputy Vladislav Davankov, another member of the "New People" party, reported on the preparation of an appeal to the government to prioritize this task for 2026. The necessary legal framework for selling "nice" car numbers has allegedly been developed, but it remains to be seen whether this initiative will become a reality.

State Duma deputy Yan Lantratova believes that the sale of "nice" car numbers could replenish the federal budget, providing a much-needed financial boost. If approved, this could mark a significant change in Russia's vehicle registration system, making personalized license plates more accessible to the public.
