Sephora appoints Artemis Patrick as the upcoming CEO for its North American division.

New Dive Brief:

  • Artemis Patrick, Sephora's global chief merchandising officer, has been appointed the next CEO for its North America business, effective April next year. Currently, Jean-André Rougeot serves as the CEO, but he'll be retiring from the role and Patrick will take over during a transition period.
  • Patrick will assume the role of President of Sephora North America on Oct. 2, reporting to Rougeot during the transition, and later to Sephora CEO Guillaume Motte. Meanwhile, Senior Vice President of Global Merchandising, Priya Venkatesh, will move into Patrick's vacated position as the global chief merchandising officer, also effective Oct. 2.

Dive Insight:

As Sephora grooms new leadership, Patrick's elevation to the CEO post and Venkatesh's promotion signify a fresh wave of leadership. Both veterans of the beauty retailer, Patrick for 17 years and Venkatesh for 18, bring a wealth of experience to the table. Motte, who assumed the CEO role in January after Martin Brok's swift departure, oversees Sephora's entire business.

During the transition, Patrick will shadow Rougeot and gradually pick up more responsibilities, with full control over stores, e-commerce, marketing, tech, and supply chain by January. Her leadership will also lead the creation of Sephora's 2025-2027 strategy and further future growth.

Motte acknowledges Patrick's contributions, including creating the Sephora at Kohl's partnership, running Sephora inside J.C. Penney during its prime years, building inclusive foundation and clean beauty categories, and initiating Sephora as the first retailer to sign the 15 Percent Pledge.

As Rougeot, who joined Sephora in 2019 and has been with parent company LVMH even longer, prepares to retire, Motte expresses gratitude for Rougeot's accomplishments, boosting Sephora's North America business to record sales and increased market shares.

In the "Brand Whisperer" fashion, Patrick is expected to lead Sephora North America with unparalleled retail, brand, beauty, and consumer expertise. Essential details about her pre-CEO achievements, however, remain less public and may be found in context-specific reports or interviews.

  1. Artemis Patrick, who has been appointed as the next CEO for Sephora's North America business, will oversee the entire finance and leadership of the business, as Guillaume Motte, Sephora's current CEO, oversees the entire business.
  2. In 2025, Patrick's leadership will also spearhead the creation of Sephora's 2025-2027 strategy, ensuring further future growth for the business.
  3. Prior to her CEO appointment, Patrick played a significant role in various initiatives, such as the creation of the Sephora at Kohl's partnership, the building of inclusive foundation and clean beauty categories, and the initiation of Sephora as the first retailer to sign the 15 Percent Pledge.
  4. Although specific details about Patrick's pre-CEO achievements are less public, her exceptional retail, brand, beauty, and consumer expertise, akin to a "Brand Whisperer," is widely recognized.
  5. LVMH, the parent company of Sephora, acknowledges Pastor Rougeot's accomplishments in boosting Sephora's North America business to record sales and increased market shares, as he prepares to retire.
