In a recent announcement, Manuela Schwesig, the Minister-President of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (MV), unveiled an investment package totalling 1.92 billion Euros over a twelve-year period. The investment package is part of a larger national strategy, with 100 billion Euros allocated to the states. MV will receive an average of around 160 million Euros per year.

In the education sector, MV will allocate 750 Million Euros for investments in schools and universities. This includes an additional 150 Million Euros for universities, 250 Million Euros for hospitals, and 100 Million Euros for the renovation of sports facilities, zoos, and culture. An additional 100 Million Euros will be provided for the improvement of sports facilities, zoos, and cultural institutions.

Schwesig, a member of the SPD party, emphasised that investments in education are a matter of intergenerational justice. She has been actively involved in promoting education and research in the region, including funding important research projects such as "Target-H" under the state's Excellence Initiative for science development.

The investment in MV comes as part of the federal government's 500 billion Euro special assets, financed by debt. Other sectors receiving significant investments include internal security, with 300 Million Euros earmarked for the renovation of police stations, and state and independent general schools, with 600 Million Euros allocated for improvements.
