Sound barrier implementation
Beginning next year, residents in Düsseldorf living near major roads, tram tracks, and noisy streets will have the opportunity to significantly improve their living conditions with the installation of soundproof windows. These windows, which will now be subsidized by the city, have been proven effective in blocking out traffic noise.
The Environmental Committee has increased the subsidy for soundproof windows from €225 per square meter of window area to €300, effective January 2024. Additionally, soundproofed fans in bedrooms and children's rooms will receive a subsidy of €225.
Jochen Kral, Düsseldorf's responsible official for Mobility and Environment, said, "Soundproof windows not only effectively block out traffic noise but also provide good thermal insulation, contributing to energy savings. When combined with soundproofed fans, the rooms are also ventilated."
To be eligible for this subsidy, the residential building in question must have a building permit issued before June 21, 1990, and the daytime traffic noise level should be at least 70 dB(A) or at least 60 dB(A) at night.
Eligible residents can check if their residential building qualifies for funding on the city's geographic portal on the internet at https://maps.duesseldorf.de, under the keyword "Climate and Environment," or by phone at 8921065.
While specific details regarding the application process, required documents, and the subsidy program have yet to be fully disclosed by the city, it can be generally expected that applicants will require proof of residence or ownership, a noise assessment report, and a detailed quotation from a certified installer or manufacturer.
For the most accurate and up-to-date details, applicants are encouraged to consult the official Düsseldorf municipal website or contact the local environmental or housing authority directly.
- The Environmental Committee, realizing the importance of environmental-science and climate-change mitigation, has also allocated a subsidy of €225 for soundproofed fans, demonstrating a commitment toward personal-finance savings on energy bills.
- With these subsidies in place for soundproof windows and fans, residents can potentially invest their personal-finance savings in other areas, thus supporting local Düsseldorf businesses and contributing to the city's economy.
- Beyond reducing noise pollution, these soundproof windows and fans also promote science and technology innovations in the field of environmental-science, aiming to combat climate-change and enhance overall living conditions by providing energy-efficient solutions.
