Sports star Luka Doncic secures $25 million Manhattan Beach residence, previously owned by tennis champion Maria Sharapova.
In a series of high-profile property transactions, two NBA stars and a tennis legend have made significant moves in the real estate market in California.
Luka Dončić Sets Manhattan Beach Record
Slovenian basketball sensation Luka Dončić has made headlines by purchasing an 8,600-square-foot, five-bedroom, eight-bath abode in Manhattan Beach, known as the Sanctuary. Designed by KAA Design, the residence blends Japanese and Scandinavian influences with California modernism. The purchase price of $25 million sets a new record in the city's history, narrowly surpassing last year's $24.5 million trade of an oceanfront home on The Strand.
The Sanctuary, completed in 2015, is located on a quarter-acre in the coveted Hill Section of Manhattan Beach. The property boasts lifestyle amenities such as a two-lane bowling alley, a resort-style swimming pool, multiple balconies, and an outdoor lounge and dining pavilion. The trust tied to Dončić's business manager, Lara Beth Seager, was listed as the buyer.
Properties along The Strand have historically dominated price records in Manhattan Beach, but Dončić's acquisition in the Hill Section proves that the area can now command top dollar.
Anthony Davis Lists 3-Acre L.A. Estate for $40 Million
Meanwhile, Anthony Davis, another NBA star, is seeking $40 million for his 3-acre L.A. estate. While the property was not listed on the open market, it was held by Carolwood Estates' Susân Perryman. The estate features a two-lane bowling alley in the basement, a resort-style swimming pool, multiple balconies, and an outdoor lounge and dining pavilion.
Maria Sharapova Moves to Montecito
Tennis star Maria Sharapova has purchased an $11.5 million estate in Montecito, California. Her new home, designed by Lockwood de Forest Jr. in 1949, is next door to Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom's property. Sharapova also maintains a $9 million ranch property in nearby Summerland.
Luka Dončić Acquires Maria Sharapova's Manhattan Beach Estate
In a twist of events, Luka Dončić has purchased Maria Sharapova's custom-built contemporary residence in Manhattan Beach for $25 million. This acquisition sets a new record as the priciest home sale in the city's history. There is no publicly available information about who Dončić's real estate agent was in the past for off-market property sales.
Dončić's previous reported $15 million home purchase in Dallas was awkwardly timed, given his move to the Lakers. However, with a fresh three-year, $165 million extension with the Lakers, it seems the Slovenian phenom is settling in Los Angeles.
These transactions highlight the ongoing trend of high-profile athletes investing in California real estate, particularly in the upscale neighbourhoods of Manhattan Beach and Montecito.
