SSA Begins October SSI Payments, Including Double Payments for Some

The Social Security Administration (SSA) has started distributing October's benefits. Notably, some recipients will receive double payments due to the calendar. Meanwhile, the government shutdown has raised concerns about the 2026 cost-of-living adjustment announcement, but it will not impact scheduled Social Security payments.

The SSA, responsible for administering Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits, has initiated its October disbursements. The first payment was made on Oct. 1, with the second payment for November's benefits set for Oct. 31. This double payment is due to the calendar, ensuring recipients receive their full monthly income. Ordinarily, SSI payments are made on the first of the month, but adjustments may occur due to weekends or federal holidays.

The SSI program supports eligible older adults and disabled individuals with monthly income. However, the ongoing government shutdown has caused uncertainty about the SSA's 2026 cost-of-living adjustment announcement. Despite this, the shutdown will not affect the scheduled Social Security payments.

In summary, the SSA has begun distributing October's SSI benefits, with some recipients receiving double payments. The government shutdown may delay the 2026 cost-of-living adjustment announcement, but it will not impact the scheduled Social Security payments.
