Strona Valley Entrance Barred to Heavy Vehicles Due to Imminent Road Collapse Warnings

Singlepassable route remains as alternative; road blocks persist between Fornero and Piana di Fornero following Easter landslide.

Strona Valley Entrance Barred to Heavy Vehicles Due to Imminent Road Collapse Warnings

Heads up, heavy vehicle drivers! Here's a heads-up for those navigating the Strona valley: Due to the ongoing repair works and structural instability, a partial closure has been implemented for vehicles over 3.5 tons on the road section from Fornero to Piana di Fornero, and then upwards into the Strona valley. This alternative route has been a lifeline for heavy vehicles, but a recent collapse in the carriageway has forced the mayor of Valstrona, Ivan Rainoldi, to issue an ordinance.

According to the mayor, "Big and particularly heavy trucks have been passing through, heading towards construction sites in the upper valley. However, their high weight has caused damage along the roadway, with structural collapses in some points. We're afraid that, with time, the situation might worsen, causing more severe damage and adversely affecting the whole road system of the valley. Consequently, we've blocked the construction sites in the upper valley, in the localities of Marmo and Cerani, which concern the area's securing."

On a brighter note, sunny days are on the horizon! According to Rino Porini, the provincial councilor in charge of roads, the works on the provincial road, which was disrupted by the Easter Sunday landslide, are progressing well. He estimates the road will reopen by the middle of the week (Wednesday or Thursday), allowing single-lane traffic and enabling the consolidation and securing of the wall.

However, before you hit the road, be sure to check with official sources for the most accurate and up-to-date information. Consult the Piedmont Region’s Mobility Department for road closure and safety measures, ANAS (Italian highway authority), or local civil protection agencies for landslide-related advisories. For details about the Strona valley's jurisdiction, contact either the Provinces of Biella or Vercelli for construction timelines and detour routes.

Remember, your safety is paramount, so always stay informed and stay safe on the roads!

  1. The ongoing repair works in the Strona valley suggest that the average weight of vehicles passing through may have been prejudicing the road's stability, leading to collapses in certain sections.
  2. The recent collapse in the carriageway has impeded the transportation of heavy vehicles through the alternative route, causing delays in the Cerani construction sites.
  3. The finance industry might experience negative implications due to the interruptions in the transportation of goods from the Strona valley, as industry relies on timely deliveries.
  4. With the road repairs and closure, the mayor of Valstrona, Ivan Rainoldi, urges drivers to adhere to the new regulations to ensure the safety of roads in the area and prevent further collapses.
Travelers must take the alternate route as the provincial road linking Fornero and Piana di Fornero remains blocked post the Easter landslide.
