Summer Construction Spree: Rhinebahn and city capitalize on holiday season for infrastructure improvement projects in Düsseldorf

When the masses are off gallivanting during the summer break, Düsseldorf takes advantage of the peace and quiet to make significant strides in their infrastructure development. Streets, bike paths, and tracks are undergoing repair and improvement across various neighborhoods.

Pempelfort: The Heart of the Action

Construction work is brisk in Pempelfort. By the end of August, the city's main bike network will expand on Eulerstraße, with bike lanes marked, intersections enlarged, and traffic lights tweaked. From Münsterstraße to Sommersstraße on Jülicher Straße, a noise-reducing asphalt will be laid before September's end. During this work, traffic will be restricted to one lane at a time.

Transformation in Gerresheim and Vennhausen

Gerresheim station's pedestrian underpass is closed due to railway work until August 4th. Elsewhere, Glashüttenstraße is under repair, with the right-turn lane being mended and receiving a noise-reducing asphalt surface by September. Hatzfeldstraße, Nachtigallstraße, and Pilgerweg are set for a new road surface using cold construction, with closures lasting one to two days.

Underrath: A Facelift

Auteurs Street in Unterrath is undergoing a complete overhaul and will be temporarily inaccessible for roughly a month, starting in August. Kehler Straße and Rendsburger Weg will also receive new road surfaces using cold construction, resulting in temporary closures.

Eller and Bilk: Road Renewal

Two segments of Wormser Weg in Eller will receive a fresh road surface, necessitating full closures during the work from August to September. In Bilk, the bike main network is being expanded on'm Hennekamp, with a 300-meter-long new bike path scheduled for completion by the end of September. Weekend closures will occur for asphalt work.

Challenges Ahead in Other Districts

Street repairs with noise-optimized asphalt, each requiring closures for one to two days, are planned for the following streets until the end of September:

  • Flingern-Nord: Diesel Street
  • Heerdt: Knechtsteden Street
  • Niederkassel: Weezer Street
  • Stockum: Klapheck Street
  • Lierenfeld: Stufstock, Unterbacher Street, Pattscheider Street
  • Wersten: Pfitzner Street
  • Benrath: At Stufstock

In Flingern, resurfacing with noise-optimized asphalt at Hellweg/Bruchstraße/Daimlerstraße is scheduled for the autumn holidays.
