The first edition of the Automotive Inbound Logistics Survey 2025, a new annual industry benchmark, has shed light on the pressing concerns and priorities of over 340 senior executives in the inbound sector. The survey, conducted in collaboration with DP World, paints a picture of an industry grappling with various challenges but also seeking opportunities to turn industry turmoil into growth.
The survey findings highlight that US tariffs, which are seen as universally damaging, are causing widespread concern. Respondents across every region agreed that these tariffs are a destabilizing force shaping global supply chains. The fallout from trade wars is already affecting North America, Europe, and Asia.
Cost pressure is the biggest headache for industry leaders, with over four in ten respondents citing it as their primary concern. Specific areas of cost pressure mentioned include freight rates, fuel bills, and labor costs. Sourcing decisions are being reshaped due to the impact of trade wars, and they are inflating prices.
The survey also reveals that the inbound sector needs to accelerate digital transformation to navigate competition and disruption. Enhancing planning and optimization is another key priority, as is fostering collaborative partnerships. One in three executives cited supply chain disruption as a permanent feature of the logistics landscape.
Shifting geopolitical alliances, shortages of critical materials, and complex retooling for electrification are sources of supply chain disruption. However, the report also captures where executives see opportunity emerging in the face of disruption.
The survey results provide leaders with visibility and foresight to mitigate risk, optimize operations, and make smarter, data-driven decisions.
