Taco Bell Aims to Match Chick-fil-A's Friendliness as AI Drive-Thrus Show Promise

Dutch Bros has been recognised for its friendly service, scoring 92% in a recent survey. The coffee chain also boasts an average wait time of just over 6 minutes. Meanwhile, Taco Bell is aiming to improve its offerings to match the popularity of Chick-fil-A, which was rated as having the friendliest service at drive-thrus in the 2025 QSR Drive-Thru Report.

In terms of speed, Taco Bell continues to lead the pack with an average drive-thru time of 4 minutes, 16 seconds, maintaining its 5-year top spot. KFC follows closely with a time of 4 minutes, 21 seconds, despite a slight increase in wait time and order errors. However, McDonald's, the largest fast-food chain, scored the lowest in friendliness with 65%.

Looking to the future, Yum! Brands' AI drive-thrus, developed with Nvidia, are showing initial success despite some errors. However, AI-powered ordering systems at Taco Bell and KFC have not yet significantly improved wait times or accuracy. Despite this, friendliness remains a crucial factor in drive-thru satisfaction, with Chick-fil-A scoring 93% in this area.

As customers continue to value friendly service, chains like Taco Bell are aiming to improve their offerings to match the popularity of Chick-fil-A. While AI technology is being explored to enhance drive-thru experiences, traditional factors like speed and friendliness remain key to customer satisfaction.
