Tesco Ireland Plans Expansion, Announcing 400 New Job Opportunities

**Tesco Ireland Announces Major Expansion Plan, Set to Create 400 New Jobs**

Tesco Ireland has revealed an ambitious expansion plan, aiming to open 10 new stores across the country over the next 12 months, following a €40 million investment. This move will significantly grow Tesco Ireland's workforce, taking it above 13,500 permanent employees.

The expansion will encompass a mix of larger supermarkets and smaller Tesco Express convenience stores. Confirmed locations for the new outlets include Fermoy (County Cork), Dublin, Galway, Louth, and Meath. Notably, the Fermoy store, due to open by the end of July, will be a major employer, generating around 100 new jobs on its own.

Recruitment for new positions such as customer assistants, delivery drivers, and line managers will begin for stores in areas including M1 Retail Park and Howth later in the year. Tesco currently operates 183 stores in Ireland, and this expansion will bring their total to 193.

Geoff Byrne, CEO of Tesco Ireland, emphasised the importance of this investment for the company's leadership role in the Irish retail sector and its focus on employees at the heart of the business. Peter Burke, Minister for Enterprise, Tourism, and Employment, expects the move to boost local towns.

Tesco Ireland's investment underscores its commitment to being a leading employer and retailer in Ireland. The retailer spends around €1.6 billion annually on Irish food and drink, supporting local suppliers and producers.

In the first quarter of 2025, Tesco Ireland reported a 5.5% increase in like-for-like sales growth. This expansion is expected to reinforce Tesco's significant presence in Ireland and contribute positively to the local economy and job market.

The company's business supports 45,000 jobs directly and indirectly in the Republic, demonstrating the far-reaching impact of this expansion. Tesco Ireland will announce its investment and job creation plans on Monday.

With this expansion, Tesco Ireland aims to invest €40 million and open 10 new stores, creating 400 new jobs in the finance sector and bolstering its business operations. The new stores will be a mix of supermarkets and smaller convenience stores, potentially increasing Tesco Ireland's annual spending on Irish food and drink to support local suppliers.
