Tesla commences construction on a new Supercharger station in Grande Prairie, Alberta.
Tesla Accelerates Supercharger Expansion in Canada
Tesla has begun construction on a new Supercharger station in Grande Prairie, Alberta, and another in the town of Canmore, as part of its ambitious national expansion plans. The Grande Prairie station, strategically located near Highway 43, will fill a key gap for drivers heading toward Fort McMurray, Jasper, or northern British Columbia.
The new station, located at 10819 106 Ave, near Fabricland, will feature four V4 Supercharger stalls and will be part of Tesla's EV corridor, connecting existing Supercharger sites in Valleyview and Whitecourt. The Canmore Supercharger, on the other hand, will bring the total number of stalls in the town to 24.
Tesla's national expansion plans include the deployment of over 50 new Supercharger stations with more than 630 stalls across Canada in 2025. The company is also planning to add 56 new Supercharger stalls across Alberta by 2025, including in Calgary, Lethbridge, and St. Albert.
The rapid deployment of these Supercharger stations is made possible by Tesla's use of prefabricated Supercharger units (PSUs). These self-contained charging modules with up to four stalls pre-assembled allow Tesla to bring a new station from delivery to operation in as little as four days. This approach has dramatically reduced installation timelines compared to traditional on-site construction.
However, the pace of PSU installation for Tesla's Supercharger stations is often held up by utility providers and final power hookup. Grid operators are responsible for the final grid connection, which includes permitting, meter installation, and energization work-steps.
