Chopping Red Tape for Farmers: Brandenburg's Push for Swift Bureaucracy Reduction

Government intends to speed up the process of reducing bureaucracy for farmers' benefits - The Administrative Authority in The Land seeks to simplify administrative tasks for agricultural workers.

Get ready for fewer hurdles in the field! Brandenburg's Agriculture Minister, Hanka Mittelstaedt (SPD), is gearing up to make waves in Brussels, advocating for less bureaucracy in EU agricultural funding. She's planning to use every available communication channel and push for a substantial reduction in Brussels bureaucracy.

Farmers are finding it increasingly difficult to manage their operations due to excessive bureaucracy. With a €378.5 billion budget for the 2021-2027 Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) period, the EU's support for farmers serves as a crucial income source. However, as farmers are out there tackling spring work, the EU Commission is shuffling papers for CAP realignments in 2028, according to farmers' president, Henrik Wendorff. Regulations should not hinder farmers, and bureaucracy needs to be slashed.

Brandenburg farmers can expect an easing of bureaucratic burdens. The state government is progressing well on this front, as confirmed by Minister President Dietmar Woidke (SPD). Reducing bureaucracy measures will be tackled by the state parliament in upcoming sessions. Woidke also pointed out that the new federal government is expected to pay more attention to agriculture than its predecessors, as per the coalition agreement.

This year's 32nd Agricultural Exhibition in Paaren im Glien is set to feature around 600 animals. Exhibitors will showcase their farming prowess at this event, designed as a platform for farmers and a family-friendly outing. A day pass for the agriculture event costs €10 for adults.

According to the 2023 Agricultural Structure Survey, Brandenburg is home to approximately 5,400 farming operations covering nearly 1.3 million hectares of farmland.
