The Vampire's Wife Closes After Struggling in Luxury Retail
Fashion label The Vampire's Wife has announced its closure. The brand, known for its celebrity following, will hold a final sale in London from May 24 to May 26 before shutting down for good.
The Vampire's Wife, founded by Susie Cave, struggled with financial difficulties. In July 2023, the brand paid off taxes owed to the U.K. Revenue and Customs, with help from existing investors including music producer Jimmy Iovine and his wife Liberty Ross. Despite the support, the brand was unable to overcome challenges in the luxury retail sector, such as the closure of Matches and Farfetch's acquisition by Coupang.
The label, named after a book project by Cave's husband, musician Nick Cave, gained popularity among celebrities like Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, Jodie Comer, Cate Blanchett, and Ruth Negga. Despite its high-profile following and collaborations like the 2020 capsule collection with H&M, the brand was unable to sustain its operations.
The Vampire's Wife will close after a final physical sale in London. Founder Susie Cave expressed gratitude for customer support and will miss the team. The brand's liquidation was funded by private investors, including founders Alexandra Michael and Michael Hess, along with private equity firms and individual investors who supported the brand's growth.
