Heretic, the acclaimed horror thriller featuring Hugh Grant, Sophie Thatcher, and Chloe East, drops on digital streaming this week.

The film's synopsis, revealing its release in theaters on November 8, is as follows: "Two young missionaries find themselves thrust into a terrifying situation when they stumble upon the wrong residence, encountering the malevolent Mr. Reed. Caught in his sinister game of cat and mouse, they are compelled to demonstrate their faith."

Grant portrays Mr. Reed, with Thatcher and East playing Mormon missionaries Sister Barnes and Sister Paxton. The movie is penned and directed by Bryan Woods and Scott Beck.

As reported by When to Stream, the digital release of Heretic will be available via premium video on demand on December 10. However, it is important to note that A24, the film's studio, has not officially announced or confirmed the PVOD release date, and it is subject to change.

Upon its release on PVOD, the film can be purchased on various platforms such as Amazon Prime Video, AppleTV, and VUDU for $24.99, or rented for a 48-hour period for $19.99.

According to The Numbers, Heretic has amassed a domestic box office revenue of $27.3 million and an international revenue of $12 million, totalling $39.2 million worldwide. The Associated Press reported that the film had a production budget of less than $10 million, excluding printing and advertising expenses.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter shortly after the theatrical release of Heretic, directors Bryan Woods and Scott Beck shared their efforts to secure Hugh Grant for the role of Mr. Reed.

Woods and Beck recalled that they embarked on a "meticulously planned battle campaign" to secure Grant for the role. They reached out to Grant's management agency CAA and A24, the film's studio, pleading with them to present the project to Grant, emphasizing the unique role he could play.

Woods explained, "It's a risky move because if Hugh turns us down, we can't go back to those 20 people and say, 'Oops, actually, this other person was the only one who could play the role.' So you only get to make that plea once."

Woods further explained, "We felt so strongly that it had to be Hugh, especially after revisiting his work from the past 10 years and his character actor journey, from Cloud Atlas to playing an Oompa-Loompa in Wonka. His willingness to take risks is inspiring."

Rated R, Heretic is expected to debut on digital streaming on December 10.
