It seems the "Wolf Man" reboot is struggling to outshine "Mufasa: The Lion King" at the box office during the four-day Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend.

Universal Pictures' reboot of "Wolf Man" struggled to garner attention during the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend, falling short of Disney's "Mufasa: The Lion King." Leigh Whannell's R-rated horror thriller, featuring Julia Garner and Christopher Abbott, brought in an estimated $12 million through the MLK holiday weekend, according to Deadline.

Universal Studios is known for their classic monster movies, such as "Frankenstein," "Dracula," "The Mummy," and the original "Wolf Man." However, the recent reboot failed to recreate the magic of its predecessors.

Meanwhile, "Mufasa: The Lion King" continued its successful run, projected to earn $16 million during the MLK holiday weekend. This would boost the movie's domestic tally to $210.3 million, since its December 20, 2024, opening.

Sony Pictures Entertainment's comedy "One of Them Days" debuted at No. 2, with estimates of making $14 million for the four-day MLK holiday weekend. Starring Keke Palmer and SZA, the movie was expected to gather a significant audience.

Paramount Pictures' "Sonic the Hedgehog 3," which ruled the box office in its debut weekend, retains a strong position in the top five. Projections suggest the film will finish at No. 4 with a three-day domestic box office take of $10.4 million and a four-day holiday weekend haul of $14.7 million.

Title: Keke Palmer and SZA's

Lionsgate's "Den of Thieves 2: Pantera" slipped to No. 5 after opening at No. 1 last weekend. Estimates indicate the film will generate $9 million through the holiday weekend, increasing its running domestic tally to $30.2 million.

Robert Eggers' remake of the 1922 horror movie classic, "Nosferatu," failed to maintain a place in the top five. Deadline projects the film will earn $5 million from 2,545 North American theaters throughout the four-day MLK holiday weekend.

These projections are subject to change as more box office figures become available. By Tuesday, the final numbers for the four-day MLK holiday weekend box office will be released.

Despite Universal Pictures' "Wolf Man" reboot underperforming during the MLK weekend, garnering only $12 million, Julia Garner and Christopher Abbott's contributions to the movie were noteworthy. Sza and Keke Palmer, on the other hand, found success with their new films. "One of Them Days," a Sony Pictures Entertainment comedy starring Palmer and Sza, debuted at No. 2, while "Den of Thieves 2: Pantera," Lionsgate's follow-up to the original, slipped to No. 5 but still managed to earn $9 million over the MLK weekend. Interestingly, Gerard Butler starred in the original "Den of Thieves," but was not involved in the sequel. For fans of classic monster movies, Robert Eggers' remake of "Nosferatu" also struggled in the box office, bringing in just $5 million over the four-day MLK weekend.
