Traffic flow on Brockweg and Kattenstrother Weg resumes after safety improvements to roundabouts
After several weeks of reconstruction, the roundabout at Brockweg and Kattenstrother Weg is set to reopen to all road users on Friday, August 28, 2025. This reopening comes as a response to the high number of incidents at this location, with the aim of significantly improving traffic safety.
The city administration, in cooperation with the traffic safety commission, has completed the reconstruction work based on the recommendations of the accident commission. The rebuilding involved narrowing the roundabout lane, adding four barrier-free pedestrian crossings, and creating safer bicycle paths. Cyclists now have designated safe spots to switch from the sidewalk and cycle path to the road at the entry points.
The roadway in the roundabout has been narrowed to five meters to encourage vehicles to reduce their speed. This, along with the addition of four barrier-free pedestrian crossings and a raised curb sidewalk with a green strip, aims to provide improved visibility and enhance safety.
The rebuilt roundabout also aims to ensure smooth traffic flow. Bus service Line 206 will be able to pass through the roundabout as usual from Friday. The city requests all road users to pay close attention to the new traffic flow and be considerate of each other in the roundabout.
The reopening of the roundabout is a significant step towards improving traffic safety in the city. The city administration encourages all road users to familiarise themselves with the new layout and drive safely.
