Traffic on the A8 highway near Pforzheim has resumed after a previous disruption.
In a significant milestone for infrastructure development in Pforzheim, Germany, the Autobahn A8 was reopened earlier than planned on Sunday evening, after an intensive deployment of man and machine handled the demolition of the B10 bridge and the renovation of approximately 6,000 square meters of road surface on the B10 between Pforzheim-Eutingen and Niefern-Öschelbronn.
The reopening of the Autobahn A8, which was closed since Friday evening, occurred around 8:45 PM and was in the direction of Stuttgart. The Autobahn was closed between the Pforzheim-Nord and -South junctions, and the closure did not affect the B10, which remains connected to the city but not directly to the Autobahn A8.
The demolition of the B10 bridge was a crucial part of the renovation work on the B10. Two demolition excavators, each weighing 40 tons and one weighing 85 tons, were used for the task, alongside thirteen trucks for the swift removal of materials from the demolition site.
The Autobahn GmbH Southwest branch was responsible for the successful reopening of the Autobahn A8, but it is important to note that they did not handle the renovation and closure of the B10. The renovation work on the B10 involved the continuous operation of three asphalt paving crews, three asphalt pavers, eight asphalt rollers, one feeder, 24 trucks for delivering mixed material, six trucks for removing waste material, one wheel excavator, and two wheel loaders.
While the Autobahn A8 was reopened in both directions, the federal road B10 and the Pforzheim-Ost junction will remain closed until Monday morning, around 5 AM, to allow for current cleaning and preliminary markings to be applied on the new B10. After cleaning and markings, traffic safety and construction site safety measures will be set up on the B10 to ensure the safety of all road users.

The Autobahn GmbH Southwest branch was responsible for reopening the Autobahn A8, but their operations did not extend to the renovation work on the B10. The latter involved significant finance for the procurement of heavy machinery like excavators, rollers, and pavers from the industry, all geared towards transportation improvements in the region, including the automotive sector with road links like the B10.
