Starting July 7, there's a big construction project happening on the Harz High Road (B242) between Sonnenberg and the B4 junction in Clausthal-Zellerfeld. This stretch, approximately three kilometers long, is getting a full makeover together with Harzwasserwerke GmbH. Unfortunately, the road will be completely closed during this construction period, as announced by the Lower Saxony State Authority for Road Construction and Traffic.
To make sure the beautiful Oderteich remains accessible, the construction work will be carried out in two phases: Phase 2A will last around 8 weeks and runs from Sonnenberg to the Oderteich parking lot, while Phase 2B will take approximately 7 weeks and stretches from the Oderteich parking lot to B4.
Time for a Detour!
Don't worry, a detour will be clearly marked for your convenience. If you're traveling from Clausthal, follow these handy directions: take Dammhaus's Federal Highway B498, then proceed towards Altenau via State Road L504. Once you're in Altenau, make your way to the B4. In Sonnenberg, access towards St. Andreasberg will be controlled by a traffic light.
For those who prefer a more straightforward route, the recommended detour is as follows:
- From Sonnenberg, take L515 (Sonnenbergstraße) towards Altenau.
- Keep going on L515 through Altenau.
- Then, hop on the B498 southbound towards Clausthal-Zellerfeld.
- From the B498, reconnect with the B4 near Clausthal-Zellerfeld.
This detour will help you bypass the closed section of the B242 and provide a reliable road for reaching Clausthal-Zellerfeld and continuing your journey along the Harz High Road corridor.
Note that the detour is well-marked on-site, and while you might experience some additional travel time due to the longer route and possible traffic in Altenau, you can stay updated by checking official transportation websites or local news for any project updates or temporary changes.
