Transfer of possession of The Butz Inn, located in Wörth
In a significant move, the traditional inn The Butz in Wörth a.d. Donau officially changed hands on September 1, 2025, with entrepreneur Matthias Kulzer taking over the reins.
The change of ownership was a culmination of efforts by various parties, including the district council, the city of Wörth, hospital director Rederer, and Mayor Josef Schütz, who had been supporting The Butz for several years. District Councilor Tanja Schweiger, expressing her gratitude, thanked everyone involved for their commitment in the interest of the district and its hospital.
The district had purchased the site for its hospital's expansion in 2019, which included The Butz's business premises. However, original plans for the transfer of ownership in 2023 were delayed due to the Corona pandemic and energy crisis. Despite the challenges, the joint operation between the district and the city of Wörth aimed to secure approximately 30 jobs at The Butz, which includes a butcher shop and guesthouse.
Mayor Schütz sees the new ownership as an opportunity to preserve tradition and set fresh impulses for the future. Kulzer, the new owner, plans to bring more events, particularly in the areas of culture and music, to The Butz. His vision aligns with the inn's status as a piece of Wörther history and identity.
District Councilor Tanja Schweiger also expressed her gratitude to the employees for their loyalty and commitment. She and the city of Wörth, in a joint statement, confirmed that no public funds were used in this investment. The start-up financing, ancillary costs, and rent have been repaid, including interest.
The Butz, with its rich history and deep roots in the community, will continue to serve as a beacon of tradition and a hub for local culture under its new leadership. The district council, the city of Wörth, and the hospital director all wish The Butz all the best in its new chapter.
