Lower Saxony Introduces Affordable Daily Travel Pass

In a recent development, Lower Saxony's Transportation Minister, Grant Henrik Tonne (SPD), has revealed the new price for the Lower Saxony Land-Ticket. The new price, set at €7.50 per day, aims to provide affordable daily travel across the entire state by local and regional trains and buses.

The Land-Ticket offers a single ticket valid on regional transport with a fixed reasonable price, reflecting efforts to encourage public transit use. Although the exact ticket price for a longer duration hasn't been announced yet, this information is consistent with Minister Tonne's recent announcements about the Land-Ticket for Lower Saxony.

In comparison, single journeys in neighbouring regions typically cost a few euros, but the Land-Ticket concept offers a more extensive validity period and coverage area, making the €7.50 daily ticket a reasonable price in line with regional pricing strategies.

However, there seems to be disagreement between the federal and state governments about the Land-Ticket pricing. The federal government and states each contribute 1.5 billion euros to secure the Land-Ticket for 2025. Ministers argue that the federal government should contribute more to the funding of the Land-Ticket.

Customers of the Land-Ticket are awaiting the discussion on its price with apprehension due to the potential for a hike. With budgets at their limit and costs continuing to rise each year, consumer associations and consumers fear they will have to foot the bill.

Approximately 14 million customers are anxious about the potential price increase of the Land-Ticket, as the new price has caused concern among its users due to the fear of a significant increase.
