U.S. airline expands its network by introducing 3 domestic routes, yet eliminates an overseas flight

American Airlines is set to enhance the in-flight experience for passengers by upgrading the Wi-Fi connectivity on its regional jets. The airline aims to equip over 500 regional aircraft with high-speed Wi-Fi by the end of 2025, bringing faster and more reliable internet service to nearly all of its regional jets[1][3].

This move aligns with the broader industry trend towards the accelerated deployment of advanced in-flight connectivity technology. Many North American carriers are upgrading their fleets with modern hybrid satellite connectivity systems, leveraging technologies such as Starlink and Viasat to boost capacity and coverage[2].

Meanwhile, American Airlines is making changes to its Florida flying next summer. The airline is suspending several routes to the Sunshine State during the offseason for Florida travel[4]. However, it is launching three new domestic routes: Chicago to Bismarck, North Dakota, Chicago to Boise, Idaho, and Phoenix to Appleton, Wisconsin[5]. The new Phoenix route from Appleton International Airport to American's Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport will give some competition to Allegiant Air[6].

Flights to Bismarck and Boise will operate daily starting June 5, 2025, while flights from Phoenix to Appleton will commence on Saturdays starting Feb. 15, 2025[7]. The new routes will be operated by American Eagle affiliate Envoy Air using Embraer E175 regional jets[8].

United Airlines is currently the largest U.S. carrier in Tulum, with four routes from domestic hubs[9]. However, American Airlines' network chief, Brian Znotins, stated that the industry is scaling back service to Tulum due to too much capacity[10]. As a result, American Airlines is ceasing flights from Tulum, Mexico, effective Feb. 13, 2025[11]. Despite this, American Airlines will continue to offer service from Dallas/Fort Worth and Miami to Tulum, Mexico.
