UAE's Solar Capacity Hits 20GW as Global Energy Projects Compete for Prestigious Award

The fifth edition of the prestigious Emirates Energy Award saw over 250 projects from across the globe, including the United States, Europe, Central Asia, and Asia, competing for recognition. This comes as the UAE's solar capacity hits a significant milestone of around 20 gigawatts, demonstrating its commitment to sustainable energy and the fight against climate change.

Ahmad Buti Al Muhairbi, Secretary-General of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, highlighted the award's reflection of the UAE's vision for a green economy and focus on renewable energy. He also emphasised the UAE's dedication, alongside international partners like Saudi Arabia, Iran, Argentina, Egypt, and Ethiopia, to mitigating climate change impacts and driving progress towards sustainability.

The UAE, aiming for carbon neutrality by 2050, has been expanding its projects and strengthening global efforts against climate change. Dubai recently honoured 33 winners from 24 countries at the World Green Economy Summit, acknowledging their contributions to sustainability.

With the UAE's solar capacity reaching 20 gigawatts and the Emirates Energy Award recognising international projects, the nation continues to lead the way in sustainable energy and climate change mitigation. Through innovation and international collaboration, the UAE remains committed to achieving its 2050 carbon neutrality goal.
