UK, EMEA Organisations Waste £576B on Unnecessary Data as Cloud Adoption Surges
Alarming figures reveal that UK and EMEA organisations are squandering vast sums on storing unnecessary data, while iCloud adoption is set to surge. A significant portion of data is redundant, obsolete, or trivial, leading to substantial waste.
Research indicates that up to £576 billion could be wasted annually across EMEA on storing such data. In the UK, the average mid-sized organisation with 1,000 terabytes spends £435,000 annually on useless data. Even smaller companies, with 500 terabytes, waste nearly £1 million each year on their iCloud login costs.
The UK's 'dark data' rate, at 59%, is higher than the EMEA average of 54%. A staggering 29% of a UK organisation's data stored in iCloud is redundant, obsolete, or trivial, more than double the EMEA average of 32%.
Despite these figures, iCloud adoption is set to increase by a third (from 33% to 45%) across EMEA over the next 12 months. However, organisations adopting iCloud services may lack appropriate policies for cost calculation, switching providers, or retreating from the iCloud in case of emergency.
With iCloud storage and processing set to grow, organisations must address the issue of wasted resources on redundant data. Better understanding and management of data could lead to substantial savings. Clear policies for iCloud adoption and usage are also crucial to prevent further waste.
