Greece's commitment to the Vertical Gas Corridor project has been praised by the US. The Greek government has shown strong political will, while the US has invested $125 million to upgrade Elefsis shipyards to service LNG ships and facilitate US LNG passage.
Greece's strategic location and access to the European market make it a vital energy hub for the Vertical Gas Corridor. Between 2020 and 2022, the Greek government played a pivotal role in advancing the project by promoting regional energy cooperation, securing necessary regulatory approvals, and fostering partnerships among involved countries.
The US has recognised Greece's leadership in making the project possible. Josh Huck, US Charge d'affaires in Athens, credited the Greek government for its facilitative and supportive role.
The US investment in Elefsis shipyards, along with Greece's continued commitment and supportive role, signals a boost for the Vertical Gas Corridor project. This collaboration strengthens Greece's position as an energy hub and facilitates US LNG passage through the corridor.
