VAG Wins German Sustainability Award for Climate-Neutral Bus Fleet by 2030

Freiburg Transport Authority (VAG) has been recognised for its commitment to sustainability, winning the German Sustainability Award in the 'Mobility Services' category. The award highlights VAG's ambitious plans to make its entire bus fleet climate-neutral by 2030 and achieve overall climate-neutrality by 2035.

VAG's board members, Oliver Benz and Stephan Bartosch, expressed pride in the award, acknowledging the company's efforts towards a sustainable transformation. The company focuses on a holistic approach, involving all areas of the business in its sustainability drive.

Currently, around two-thirds of VAG's fleet runs electrically, with plans to accelerate this transition. Recently, 22 new electric buses were commissioned, and the second electric bus port was opened. VAG uses electricity from 100% renewable sources, including its own photovoltaic systems and regional wind power.

To identify further emission reduction opportunities, VAG implements a systematic energy management system. It also applied CO2 accounting to a construction project for the first time, creating transparency about the ecological footprint of such projects. The company considers human rights and sustainability criteria in all procurements.

VAG's commitment to sustainability has been recognised with the German Sustainability Award. With ambitious targets to make its bus fleet and overall operations climate-neutral by 2030 and 2035 respectively, VAG is leading the way in sustainable mobility services. The company's holistic approach, innovative strategies, and use of renewable energy are key to achieving these climate change goals.
