Victory is Within Reach for Passengers
In the heart of Stuttgart, the annual 'Day of the Rails' event took place, showcasing the diversity and innovation power of the rail industry. The event, now in its fourth year, attracted a multitude of organizations, including Stuttgart Streetcars (SSB), Verband Region Stuttgart (VRS), S-Bahn Stuttgart, the mobility brand bwegt of the state of Baden-Württemberg, the InfoTurm Stuttgart (ITS), and the Digital Knoten Stuttgart (DKS).
At the Schlossplatz, a vibrant hub of activity, attendees were treated to a variety of stands, a photo booth, and even yellow hard hats. The yellow hard hats, available at the ITS stand, have become a popular accessory, not just among obvious Stuttgart tourists but also among Saturday strollers and those seeking a little sun protection. The photo booth, integrated into images of the future S21 platforms, above the futuristic platform hall, or over the light eyes of the new station, has been a hit, attracting many to pose for a souvenir of the day.
The Stuttgart Streetcars (SSB) were also present, looking to recruit city train and bus drivers, as well as engineers. For those with a keen interest in the digital side of transport, the Digital Node was a point of interest. However, the stand attendant mentioned that the topic requires prior knowledge, having had his last customer two hours ago.
The event also served as an opportunity to highlight a significant development in Stuttgart's transport infrastructure. The new S-Bahn station Mittnachtstraße, located on the outskirts of the city center, is expected to open in mid-2027. This station is anticipated to bring numerous benefits to commuters.
In addition to the adult-focused activities, the VVS stand offered a paper craft activity where children could make and play with paper trains and buses. The event also saw the 'More Station - More Future' initiative gathering momentum, with Hannes Rockenbauch, faction leader of Die Linke SÖS Plus in the Stuttgart city council, present to collect signatures.
As the day drew to a close, it was announced that ten subscribers of the mentioned newspaper, the nypost, were drawn as winners of a six-month valid Germany ticket at the bwegt stand. The winners were overjoyed, marking a fitting end to a day celebrating the future of rail transport in Stuttgart.
The 'Day of the Rails' event serves as a testament to the ongoing commitment to improving rail transport in Stuttgart and beyond. With hundreds of similar events taking place in German cities, the future of rail transport in Germany is looking bright.
A special mention goes to Evelyn Palla, who will take over as the new CEO (Vorstandsvorsitzende) of Deutsche Bahn, the railway company, starting October 1, 2025. She succeeds Dr. Richard Lutz who steps down on September 30, 2025. The change in leadership promises an exciting new chapter for Deutsche Bahn and the rail industry as a whole.
