Vietnam's Stock Market Ends Week Mixed as VN-Index and HNX-Index Fall

Vietnam's stock market today ended the week on a mixed note, with the VN-Index and HNX-Index both closing lower, while the VN30-Index remained relatively stable. The market awaits the FTSE Russell reclassification results, which could potentially influence the VN-Index.

The VN-Index closed down nearly 7 points, or 0.42 per cent, at 1,645.82 points during the final trading session of the week. The HNX-Index, meanwhile, dropped 3.8 points, or 1.41 per cent, to 265.75 points. Despite the overall decline, Navico (ANV) hit its ceiling price, and several other stocks posted gains. However, the number of stocks that fell was nearly three times greater than those that rose, indicating a broader stock market downturn.

Liquidity edged up slightly to nearly VNĐ24.6 trillion (US$930.8 million), suggesting increased investor participation. The VN30-Index slipped 0.29 points, or 0.02 per cent, to 1,859.51 points, demonstrating a degree of resilience among large-cap stocks. Contributing to the VN-Index were Vingroup (VIC), Vinhomes (VHM), and Vincom Retail (VRE), which together added close to 8 points.

Foreign investors had net outflows of over VNĐ1.2 trillion on the HoSE and more than VNĐ85.9 billion on the HNX, reflecting a degree of caution among international stock market investors. Hoa Phat Group (HPG) shares fell 1.6 per cent, contributing to the market's downtrend.

The stock market's performance was marked by a mix of gains and losses, with large-cap stocks showing relative stability. The impact of foreign investor outflows and the potential influence of the FTSE Russell reclassification results will be closely watched in the coming sessions.
