Villa's Lamppost Blunder Blocks Entrance, Stalls Sales in South Shields
A newly built villa in South Shields, South Tyneside has sparked laughter online and among locals, with residents calling it 'ridiculous' and 'idiotic'. The house, part of a 10-home development, is still unsold after seven months on the market, priced at £235,000 each, more than double the average house price in the area.
The source of amusement is a lamppost that stands prominently in front of the house, blocking its entrance. The developer, Hepscott Developments, had to lay paving stones and build a wall around the existing lamppost after it was discovered during construction. The lamppost was installed before the house was built, but it seems the builders were unaware of its presence until construction had already begun.
The last house in the row was disproportionately affected by the lamppost's location. Despite the unusual obstacle, none of the 10 homes in the development have been sold yet. The developer and local council are yet to comment on the situation.
The £235,000 price tag for each home may be a challenge for potential buyers, given the average house price in the area is less than half. With the lamppost issue unresolved, it remains to be seen how this unique selling point will affect the homes' marketability.
