In North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), Germany, a recent operation saw the rigorous enforcement of commercial vehicle and goods traffic control measures. The police, along with customs, the Federal Office for Logistics and Goods Transport, and municipalities, conducted controls across the state to ensure compliance with regulations governing driving and rest times, cargo securing, technical defects, and road network access.

The operation, aimed at reducing accidents involving trucks and enhancing safety for all road users, targeted commercial passenger and goods traffic. A total of 591 trucks were inspected during the operation, with several violations recorded.

Driving and rest times were monitored closely, with authorities enforcing compliance with EU and German regulations. Manipulation of tachographs to circumvent driving time rules was detected, leading to heavy fines and vehicle immobilization. Seven drivers were found to be under the influence of intoxicants, and the licenses of three drivers were confiscated.

Strict cargo securing rules were also enforced, with 178 vehicles found to be violating the regulations. Proper lashing and stowage according to vehicle load and road safety laws are essential to prevent accidents.

Technical defects were another focus of the operation. Routine checks revealed 56 vehicles with general technical defects, and 55 vehicles were prohibited from continuing their journey.

NRW has designated routes for long and heavy trucks, and compliance with these designated routes was checked during controls. The traffic services of various authorities combined their competencies for these controls, setting up control points at different locations across the state, including Grevenbroich, Neuss, Rheurdt, Duisburg, Nettetal, Hünxe, Essen, Mülheim, and Wuppelna.

Police Director Reiner Schiffer, the head of the operation, expressed satisfaction with today's action. The police plan to continue carrying out such controls regularly to increase road safety and prevent accidents. There were 127 instances of speeding violations during the operation.

In summary, North Rhine-Westphalia enforces commercial vehicle control through rigorous tachograph monitoring for driving and rest times, mandatory cargo securing standards, and regular technical vehicle inspections, aligned with federal laws and supported by focused roadside operations to detect violations and ensure safe freight transport.

In the ongoing effort to enhance safety in commercial transportation, specific focus was given to the automotive industry, particularly commercial vehicles. The operation in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) targeted violations in finance (fines for manipulating tachographs and driving under the influence) as well as industry regulations (cargo securing and technical defects).

Furthermore, NRW authorities monitored compliance with transportation regulations, such as adherence to designated routes for long and heavy trucks, as part of their drive to prevent accidents and ensure road safety.
