Will there be a change in shopping regulations in Koblenz, allowing for Sunday shopping?
The Rhineland-Palatinate Shop Opening Act is set for an amendment, allowing small automated sales outlets to operate on Sundays. This change, agreed upon by the cabinet in Mainz, is part of a joint statement by Labor Minister Dörte Schall (SPD) and Economic Minister Daniela Schall (FDP).
The amendment will apply to all small automated sales outlets in Rhineland-Palatinate, including those like "Tante Emma" and "Tante-M-Shops". However, it is important to note that the changes do not affect the operation of these outlets outside the specified times, nor do they impact the operation of large sales outlets or hybrid micro-sales outlets.
The changes aim to support and secure a local supply of daily necessities, particularly in rural communities or certain districts. The opening hours for affected shops on Sundays and holidays are limited to a maximum of 12 hours, between 6:00 and 22:00.
The four registered Sundays for shop openings under the planned law changes are associated with local events such as the flea market in Klingenmünster, the Waldfest in Mutterstadt, a market in Prüm, and the farmers' market in Speyer. Concrete examples of suitable occasions for the four Sunday trading days were not mentioned in the statement.
The law revision creates more legal certainty for these four Sunday trading days per year. It is worth noting that the changes do not apply to shops with staff present outside certain times during the week, or to the operation of sales outlets outside Rhineland-Palatinate.
This move is intended to provide more legal certainty for Sunday trading, offering a boost to local businesses and ensuring a consistent supply of essential items on Sundays. The changes will help in maintaining the vitality of local communities while respecting the traditional quietness of Sundays.
