Witness Gives Evidence in Klette Trial, Linking Him to Multiple Heists and Thefts of Large Sums

In the latest developments of the trial against former RAF terrorist Daniela Klette, the focus is squarely on a 2016 bank heist. A key witness, a money courier, shared his chilling account at the Verden Regional Court in Lower Saxony.

Initially mistaking the situation for a joke, the money courier described his surprise when a masked gunman fired a shot near him, signaling the start of a multi-million euro robbery. "Suddenly, it dawned on me that this wasn't a prank," the witness recounted.

The crime occurred outside a furniture store, where the money courier was ambushed by two vehicles. A masked man, allegedly an accomplice, threatened the driver and demanded money. The helpless courier initially entered the store, oblivious to the danger brewing outside, only to feel a pistol pressed against his temple.

According to the indictment, the accomplices included Daniela Klette and Burkhard Garweg. Allegedly, one of them fired a shot at the getaway vehicle, leaving a dent. The armed men handcuffed the money courier at the passenger door and forced him to open the cash-in-transit vehicle.

Armed with a rocket-propelled grenade and an AK-47, an accomplice held the money courier's colleague at gunpoint. After the heist, the perpetrators wasted no time fleeing the scene. The money courier, shaken but relieved, quickly returned to work.

The colleague who suffered the brunt of the trauma struggled to cope. He was absent from work, could manage only a few hours, and battled alcoholism. The anniversary of the robbery and news reports still haunt him, causing him sleep disturbance. "Lately, it's been a bit more," said the 52-year-old, seeking closure through the ongoing trial.

This unique trial, featuring Daniela Klette's lawyer duo Lukas Theune and Undine Weyers, is being held temporarily in a repurposed equestrian hall in Verden. Despite the passage of time, the impact of that fateful day remains palpable.
